President’s Message
A Message from the 2022-2023 President of the Junior League of Lancaster Susan Bowser
The Junior League of Lancaster is proud to have served our community for almost 100 years.
This year, we are thrilled to be back together in-person. Our League members are engaged and energized about our new focus area, nutrition insecurity, and our upcoming 100th anniversary.
A few highlights from this year:
-
Through conversations with our community partner Power Packs Project, the Community Impact Committee determined that a vital, but often overlooked, need are manual can openers. So, we “opened” our year by collecting over 1,500 can openers for local families this fall.
-
We held our first annual Cornhole Classic in early September. It was a fantastic, fun, family-friendly event and a successful fundraiser. Stay tuned for the date of our second annual Cornhole Classic!
-
We enacted a historic vote to officially adopt our new Mission Statement, which doesn’t change what we do, but does give us a fundable, fresh way to talk about all of our important work.
-
We’ve had great attendance and engagement, surpassing quorum, for all of our General Membership Meetings (GMMs) where we have focused on providing valuable training for our Provisional and Active members, hosting enlightening speakers from the local community, and cultivating opportunities for all members with time to form lasting connections within the League.
Coming soon:
-
Our 100th Year Celebration Kick-Off Party on May 10, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at LancasterHistory, which will feature a special appearance from New York Times best-selling author and renowned novelist Patti Callahan Henry!
-
More community projects and volunteer opportunities addressing nutrition insecurity in Lancaster County.
